How many of you really know the Lord’s Prayer? I know there are different versions of it between Jesus and the Apostles, but the main prayer is the same. Most Christians just say the words in repetition and never really hear the words. The Lord says a lot in that prayer. The one part of the prayer I’m going to concentrate on is the area that many Christians may have missed. Below is version from the King James Version of the Bible where Jesus is talking.
Matthew 6
9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
So how many of you have ever said, “I’ll never forgive them” or, “…that man”, or “…that woman”, whatever the case may be? How many of you still have siblings you don’t talk to or a parent because of an argument or something done in the past. Do you know that somehow you have to forgive them…I didn’t say get together with them, the Lord will lead you on which direction to go with that, I didn’t even say talk to them, but in your own heart and soul you have to forgive them? The Holy Spirit will help you; God won’t leave you stranded.
The Lord continued in verse 14…
14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
So, you see, you have to forgive others that have sinned against you, no matter how bad the sin was. Any judgements against that person will be performed from God. I’m not saying if that person is stalking you or you are in immediate danger to come out of hiding and try and befriend them, that is not what this is about. The forgiveness you give to others will change your focus from Fear and Hate to Faith and Peace. God is far more powerful than Satan’s minions. So, pray the Lord’s prayer, even if you have to read it until you really know it and ask the Lord to help you to forgive those that have sinned against you or that you have had a disagreement with. You may not work it out with them, but in your heart and soul you can work it out in your self.
