Now this is a “rabbit hole”, especially these days, but really its not…the Bible hasn’t changed. Some churches or scholars have changed some meanings of the Bible by picking a verse or verses out of context to conveniently alter the Bible’s meaning for their sake. Below is the King James Bible version of the whole of the Ten Commandments. They are written in multiple verses, as you can see, as they are in the Bible, but some of the verses pertain to the same commandment. Some churches these days don’t believe in following the Old Testament and just sticking to the New Testament. Probably so they don’t have to follow the Ten Commandments… well, that’s a whole other topic. The Ten Commandments were written on stone by the finger of God. Stone or rock has a special significance in the Bible as in its forever.

Jesus is our Rock and came, partly to show us how to live by and follow the 10 Commandments, not to destroy them. He wants us to follow his example on how to live a Godly life. Would his Father be proud of him if he destroyed what his Father Created? “Fulfil” doesn’t mean to do away with, in fact Jesus added to the 10 Commandments by magnifying their meaning, plus he gave us additional Commandments to follow, which I’ll talk about later. The power that Jesus had on earth for healing, teaching, calming the seas and yes even raising the dead, were powers he was given by faith through fasting and prayer.

2 Samuel 22:1-2 1“And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:” 2“And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;”

Matthew 5:17-19 17“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

So, when I say Jesus expounded the 10 Commandments, he magnified their meaning as in the case of, “Thou should not Kill”. He told us that if we were angry at someone without just cause, that we are in danger of the same judgement. (Matthew 5:21-26) Another commandment he brought in a clearer focus was, “Do not commit Adultery”. The act of committing adultery wasn’t the only way of committing the sin but looking at a woman with lust in your heart was the same as committing the sin. (Matthew 5:27-28)

The additional commandments Jesus talks about are swearing oaths to God contractually …this was done more often during olden days, but still can be done today. If done it’s not to be taken lightly or can the oath be broken. Another commandment Jesus wants us to follow is to not retaliate if someone were to strike us… to “offer the other cheek”. To not resist the evil done to us but to show it goodness. That if we are sued to give them more than they asked for, to Love both our neighbours and our enemies. That we need to strive to be Perfect as our Father is Perfect.

God laid out a perfect plan for us to follow, a simple plan with only a few rules, nothing like the laws we have to follow in the lands we live. He told us what he expected of us and what we would get in return. The Commandments show us that God is Love and their purpose is to guide us to be that same Love to our neighbours, and to all of mankind.

22But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

23Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;

24Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
