I’m a good person. I don’t break any laws; I pay all my taxes and give money to charity’s. I treat my family well, don’t cheat on my wife, heck I barely look at other women. I don’t lie or cheat others; I work hard and do my fair share. I go to church when I can, usually for weddings or special events, but I occasionally do go. I’m better than most people I know, about equal to others. God willing, I’ll likely be in heaven when I die.

To be honest, to go to heaven doesn’t just take a “good person”. It takes someone who believes. God wants a relationship with you. If you want to know what God wants of you, open a Bible and turn to John 3:16. ( see below) God doesn’t want you to rely on your “self”, he wants you to rely on him. Which means communication with him on a regular basis. What most people don’t realize is if you don’t choose God, you have chosen Satan. There are only two choices. You may think you are a good person, but there’s Sin in your life and the only thing Sin does is separate you from God. You need to repent of all your sins and the only one that can forgive you is Jesus. As he carried all our sins to the cross. He died for our sins. Your repentance for your sin can only be cleansed through Jesus Christ. And then, when you die, you’ll be welcomed into Heaven. Heaven isn’t a reward for “a good person”, it’s a place for forgiven believers that have a relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit (our comforter).

When you repent of your sins and become a believer you gain eternal life. If you chose to not follow God, you’ll gain eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. It may sound harsh for a “good person” and even for a not-so-good, but you need God to keep you from the wiles of Satan and his minions. There will come a time in your life where you’re tested, and the lure of Satan will be irresistible to you. It may have happened already. It might be subtle…a little lie here, “it won’t hurt anything, just this once”, a little sin there, and the next thing you know he’s gotcha. Ah, it’ll go away… nobody’s the wiser. Satan, once he has you, won’t forget, in fact he’ll remind you. He’s very tricky that way. Sin will bring darkness to your thoughts and dreams. Satan knows all about Sin, he was thrown out of Heaven because of it. He started with Pride and then he wanted to be equal to God. He wanted Power. What would you do to get that job that’s got way better pay and benefits? Would you throw someone “under a bus” to get it. One of your friends or fellow workers? Oh look, a wallet on the ground, would you pocket some or all of the cash before throwing it away or turning it in? Oh, look at that “hot chick”, if only I wasn’t married. Man was I drunk last night; I can’t remember driving home… mm the keys are here in my pocket. How many of these sins might fit into your life? I could list many more, but I won’t, you get the idea. We all have done stupid things in our lives, even me. Sin eats at you as stress does. Living with it without getting rid of it can affect you the health of both your mind and body. The difference is how do you rectify these sins and bring some light into the darkness that sin brings or maybe just let it slide and continue to believe when your dead your dead or you believe you’re a “Good Person”.
